Chapter 9: Spells and Shoelaces
---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- ----------------------------
Taguchi is greeted by the smoldering heat of the afternoon sun; he crawls across the carpeted floor to his bag, looking for the wristwatch his brother had given him as a birthday present. It was already 3 o’ clock in the afternoon and Koki was still lying on the floor and when he walks to the dinner table, Yuichi is still there.
“You’re awake, that’s good. Now I have someone to help me with these.”
The voice was Tatsuya’s who stood at the sink hands occupied with washing used dishes and glasses. Junnosuke is relieved; he feared that the older man left before him. He walks to his direction, pulling down creased his shirt, and running a hand through his tousled hair before proceeding to scratch his head for no apparent reason. He leans by the counter and watches the intricate way Ueda washed dishes, he really did not expect the other to do such things, he had never really seen him like that.
“Stop watching and start helping me with these.”
Tatsuya demanded and the other complied with much pleasure. Both hear a groan coming from Nakamaru. The young man stretched his arms upwards as though he wanted to touch the ceiling before rising from his seat.
---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- ----------------------------
“Junno, sorry about last night. I was too drunk.”
“No, it’s okay. You’re right. Things have been different lately.”
Yuichi bows his head, returning his attention to the television screen, concentrating on how to level up his character. His game controller was already covered with sweat coming from his palms and his eyes gone weary and tired but he refused to give up.
Taguchi yells a curse at the enemy when his character receives a blow, causing his life gauge to turn red. This is when Nakamaru takes the chance to ask something that bothered him and robbed him of a few hours sleep.
“Do you know— what’s happening with Akanishi? Or Kame perhaps? Has Ueda told you anything?”
The younger man’s pulse begins to race tenfold, and sweat trickles down his face. His eyes never left the screen though; the question was something that he himself knew no possible answer.
He feels a light touch on the back of his head and turns around to see who it is, Ueda smacks him in the forehead loudly and Yuichi gives out booming laughter, he was kept silent when he too receives a smack on his own forehead.
“Stop playing videogames! Instead why don you help me and Koki fix this place up?”
Nakamaru’s eyes searched his surroundings, yes the place was a mess and certainly not the least bit attractive but it did not seem to be a great deal to him. He looks back at Tatsuya with a skeptical expression.
“Nah. This is okay.”
“What do you mean its okay?! You don’t care living in this garbage dump?!”
“Uh, no?”
Ueda then raises an eyebrow and frowns, surrounded by a domineering aura.
“. . .Fine.”
He unwillingly stands up and turns off his game console half-heartedly. Sighing as Tatsuya dragged him to the kitchen with Junnosuke behind him. The tallest KAT-TUN member chuckles while observing the irritated Yuichi who did not stop whining even when he was told to mop the floor.
Minutes later, all four were immersed in their appointed ‘duties’ given by none other than Ueda.
“You know what I think?”
Tatsuya says this as he moved closer to Taguchi who was just beside him folding blankets with him. The other man gives him a perturbed look a bit unsure of what Ueda was about to say.
“I think— she may have really loved him.”
“Loved who?”
Junnosuke snickered, hiding the uneasiness behind his voice. Ueda smiles and folds the blanket he used another time. Trying to ignore the fact that he found his friend’s reaction just a tad bit too forced.
“That dancer, I think she may have really loved that soldier.”
Taguchi blushes at the statement; it was something that he always wished were true, even as a child. He had always wished that the possibility was true. He nods in fake agreement, in a loss for words or a proper retort.
“Maybe she just didn’t know, or—”
“If she really did love him, that’d make me really happy.”
“Really?”
Tatsuya smiled at the remark, unknowing of what true meaning lie behind the words. Unfortunate as it may sound, he had become so numb to his own pain he grew numb of other’s as well.
“Really!”
Taguchi beamed, burying the ache with that smile that fooled everyone. A friendly pat on his arm served as enough reward and he smiles even wider. The second he does, Koki falls off the chair he was stepping on to return the CDs the scattered all over the apartment the night before.
---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- ----------------------------
Yuichi bids them goodbye, after he is finished escorting them to the train station. He even rubs Tanaka’s shaved head to make his goodbye extra special for one of his closest friends only to have his hand swatted away. He walks off laughing still waving his hand goodbye to the other three who waited for their respective ride home.
Koki runs to the nearby stall that sold convenient lunch packages, excitedly browsing through their impressive dishes on sale leaving the two sitting alone at the wooden bench.
“M-My back hurts.”
Ueda complains setting beside him his own bag and leaning back to the bench. He regretted having to squeeze himself on that small couch Nakamaru had in his apartment.
“Ah, Ueda! Your shoelaces’ untied!”
Taguchi bows down to reach for the untangled shoelaces, tying them in an old-fashioned manner disregarding the curious onlookers and harsh whispers. He even took no notice of the strange look that Tatsuya himself gave him.
“I saw it in a movie once! Maybe even twice! It’s a spell actually! It means I’ve put a spell on you!”
Junnosuke points this out quite proudly a finger pointed out to the neatly tied shoeleaces. Both hear giggles in every direction and Ueda was not pleased. He hits the younger man on the head again. Only to end up laughing when the younger man pouts at him claiming how much it had hurt.
For a considerably short time, Tatsuya Ueda forgot his misery because of Taguchi. He lifts his feet off the ground only a little, scrutinizing the work Junnosuke did with his shoelaces.
He wonders what so-called ‘spell’ was cast upon him.

Author’s Notes: I struggled but for once, it would be nice if you guys actually read something that didn’t involve uber angst! XD Sorry if it’s short! I needed this chapter because the next more chapters are going to be a bit more focused on Jin, Kame and Yamapi. This is so because they have the more complicated and heavier situation. So yes, some JunDa here! <3 And yes, I saw the ‘tying shoelaces’ thing once in the Korean movie ‘Bungee Jumping of Their Own’ and so, that particular event is inspired by a scene in the same movie, only of course, mine is much, much, crappier! So— what do you guys have to say about this chapter?! It’s probably not what you’ve expected (and hey! It’d be boring if everything went as what you expected LOL!) but I had to write this because if I didn’t, there would be no time left to develop Taguchi and Ueda’s relationship and characters. And wouldn’t you just looovvvee to speculate what spell Junno put on Ueda! I bet it’s a make-you-horny spell!!! XD Just kidding! Comments make Koki and Nakamaru want to dance the cha-cha! I’m super nice today, aren’t I?
